Front-lit, halo-lit or both?

Light direction changes both readability and architectural character. Front illumination is direct, halo illumination is atmospheric, and a combined construction can deliver both—but only when the wall, viewing distance and ambient light support it.

Front-lit letters for direct visibility

A front-lit letter uses a translucent face illuminated from inside. It produces the clearest direct reading and is usually the strongest choice for long viewing distances or busy surroundings.

A frameless acrylic face without a visible front trim creates a cleaner contemporary appearance. Letter depth, face opacity and LED spacing must be balanced to avoid visible hotspots.

Halo-lit letters for architectural depth

Halo-lit letters have an opaque face and emit light from the rear onto the mounting surface. The reflected halo separates the form from the wall and can feel more refined than direct face light.

The wall is part of the optical system. Texture, colour, reflectivity and the spacer distance all change the halo. Very dark, uneven or absorbent surfaces may need testing or an alternative construction.

Combined light when both effects matter

Front-and-back illumination supports strong reading while adding depth around the letter. It is useful for flagship façades and architectural branding, but it requires more careful wiring, diffusion and mounting.

Before choosing, review day and night visibility, minimum viewing distance, wall build-up, power access and maintenance. These conditions matter more than the product label alone.
